Sicilian Defense (system 1. e4 c5 2. Kf3 d6 3. d4 cd 4. K:d4 Kf6 5. Kc3 a6)
System 1. e4 c5 2. Kf3 d6 3. d4 cd 4. K:d4 Kf6 5. Kc3 a6 was
introduced to chess at the very beginning of the sixties
during the crisis of the Scheveningen Defenses and the
Dragon Variant. So the Paulsen System was revived, and
the wait-and-see move 5 ... a6 appeared. Having delayed the
development of the kingside by one move, Black is ready at
any moment to move on to the studied patterns, while
maintaining a certain independence in the choice of plans.
In the present work, an attempt is made to systematize the
very diverse and extensive information accumulated in chess
publications over those years. The author used materials
published in print no later than March 1, 1969.
