S.B. Voronkov Masterpieces and dramas of the USSR championships
The new ambitious project by the famous journalist Sergey Voronkov is an attempt to understand what is hidden under the legendary brand "soviet chess school". At USSR championships, starting from the first all Union Olympiad (1920) and ending with the last 58th Union forum (1991), all the best chess players of the country including eight world champions participated. That is why one can follow all the history of soviet chess evolution using these tournaments as rings of a tree.
At his work the author draws only from documents: newspapers and magazines of those years, tournament bulletins, eyewitnesses' attestations . That is why not a threadbare fiction is offered to your attention but but a plenty of unknown till the present moment facts, sensational findings and intrigue stories. Chess games - one is better than another – only the best and the most dramatic! The participants themselves make comments, in addition all of them were subjected to PC tests "by Kasparov".
This volume is dedicated to the first ten champions of the USSR (1920-1937). It contains 107 selected "masterpieces and dramas" and 150 archival photographs and drawings
