Siegfried Brehmer's problem fall into four periods, (1) his apprenticeship, before WW2, (2) his hay-day in 1948-1952, (3) his hybernation of no less than 30 years, in which he composed only 3 problems, and finally (4) his come-back, in 1982, since he has worked mainly in collaboration with younger friends. The collection covers many years and all genres of direct-mate problems. The themes have changed, but the composer's approach and his style remained remarkably constant.
