Rice, J.
An ABC of chess problems
The title of this book is deliberately ambiguous, for the work has something to offer both
beginners and experts. The beginner will find a simple introduction to the chess problem, in the
form of a detailed analysis of a small number of outstanding examples, followed by a survey,
arranged alphabetically, of the principle terms and themes which he is likely to encounters his
acquaintance with chess problems grows deeper. For the expert the book presents, for the first
time in English, a catalog of the terminology combined with a collection of some of the finest
problems ever composed, and therefore makes a unique contribution to problem literature.
