Moiseenko, A.
Grandmaster Savon. Champion and Mentor
From the second half of the 60s to the end of the 70s of the XX
century Vladimir Andreevich Savon (1940-2005) was one of the leading
chess players of the Soviet Union. The peak of the grandmaster’s
sports career from Kharkiv was a brilliant victory in the 1971 USSR
Championship. Having completed active practical chess activities, he
found a new calling in coaching.
In this book, the compatriot and student of Savon, two-time winner
of the chess Olympiads, European champion in 2013, Grandmaster
Alexander Moiseenko talks about the life path and professional
achievements of the mentor. More archival materials allow you to
recreate the atmosphere of the era when chess was an important part
of the country's cultural and social life. The author has collected
more than a hundred examples from the work of Savon, most of them
are commented for the first time. The memoirs of students and
colleagues cited in the book emphasize the outstanding personal
qualities of the grandmaster.
For a wide range of chess lovers.
